This new edition of A Survey of Jilin Province has been written by the general office of the provincial government in compliance with the instruction of Governor Hong Hu. Based on the principles of aesthetics, compactness and quality, the version has gone through repeated trials, considerable reflection and undergone 10 drafts.

　　The editor in chief is the Secretary General of the provincial government, Jiao Zhengzhong. The two vice editors in chief are Xiao Xin, vice director of the general office of the provincial government, and Li Xinmin, assitant ombudsman of the general office. Yan Zhifeng, Gao Yan and Jiang Mao of the general office did the writing and compiling. Xiao Xin examined and finalized the version. Li Xinmin did the overall planning, polished and revised the drafts while Yan Zhifeng also did writing and revising.

　　The participants of the book also include Sun Shihai, Zhao Dongmin, Liu Jian, Gu Xiufan, Feng Guoji, Qin Yong, Zhang Fenglong, Zhao Xiuguang, Hou Zhaoyi, and Zou Fujun.

　　We hereby give our thanks to the compiling committee of provincial history, the provincial cartography bureau. Our gratitude also goes to Jilin Pictorial Press and leaders and experts in the province that have given us great support and direction in the work.

　　There is a lot to cover in writing about the province. For lack of time and the experience necessary for doing this work, the book is still far from satisfactory and in spite of our painstaking efforts, there are still errors and omissions. Understanding and feedback from readers will be appreciated.
